Finding cleaning products that are safer for you, your family, and the environment should be easy — that's why JAWS participates in EPA’s Safer Choice program. Products with the Safer Choice label help consumers choose products with safer chemical ingredients, without sacrificing quality or performance. When you see the Safer Choice label on a cleaning product, it means the EPA’s Safer Choice team screened each ingredient for potential human health and environmental effects and the product contains only those ingredients that pose the least concern among chemicals in their class.
Products must pass stringent criteria in order to earn the Safer Choice label. Ingredients, product performance, pH levels, and packaging are all reviewed to ensure that products are safer for you, your family and the environment.
Ingredients: Every ingredient must meet strict safety criteria, including carcinogenicity, reproductive/developmental toxicity, toxicity to aquatic life, and persistence in the environment. This means that Safer Choice-certified products are safer for:
- You, your family, and pets;
- Fish
- The environment
Product performance: Products that qualify must pass category-specific performance standards and must perform comparably to conventional cleaning products.
Packaging: Safer Choice reviews all product packaging against criteria defined in the Safer Choice Standard.
pH: Certified products must meet pH standards that minimize the potential for skin and eye irritation or injury.
Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs): Safer Choice restricts VOC content to minimize indoor air pollution and associated respiratory concerns.
Additionally, Safer Choice requires ingredient disclosure for all products—either on the label or other easily accessible places such as the website.
JAWS Glass Cleaner, Kitchen Cleaner, Daily Shower Cleaner and Hardwood Floor Cleaner have all earned the Safer Choice label.
When you see the Safer Choice label, you can be confident that the ingredients have been through a rigorous EPA review and the cleaning product is safer for you, your family, your pets and the environment.
